Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique – Beethoven Symphonies
The Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique (ORR), conducted by Dinis Sousa, will perform Beethoven’s symphonies and Mass in C major at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and at the Philharmonie de Paris, in May 2024. The Monteverdi Choir will join the ORR for performances of Beethoven’s Mass in C major and Symphony No. 9 alongside soloists Lucy Crowe (soprano), Alice Coote (mezzo-soprano), Allan Clayton (tenor) and William Thomas (bass).
Beethoven composed his nine symphonies over 25 years – from 1799 to 1824. The symphonies trace a fascinating course through Beethoven’s development as a composer from his Viennese period, influenced by the classical tradition of Mozart and Haydn, through to his revolutionary and experimental late period.
The Monteverdi Choir, founded in 1964, celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2024. Over the course of its lifespan it has established itself as one of the greatest choirs in the world. The ORR, founded in 1989, strives to provide bold new perspectives on the music of the 19th and early 20th centuries through its stylistic fidelity and intensity of expression. Dinis Sousa is Associate Conductor of the three Monteverdi ensembles, the first-ever in the history of the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras.
