Next broadcasts Friday, November 29 at 00:35 on Mezzo

  • Classical

On June 7, 1654, in the Reims Cathedral, Louis Dieudonné de Bourbon, is crowned King of France. Reims welcomes this ceremony with all the splendor possible and will be for a few days the center of a kingdom rebuilt around the young king of sixteen. The ceremonial is impressive as could be that of a theater and all the "grands" of the kingdom of France, but also the rulers of Europe, are present in the cathedral of Reims. If there is no indication of what music was played on this occasion, we can find over a careful investigation many clues. Sébastien Daucé and his ensemble Correspondances propose, with the precious help of the musicologist Thomas Leconte, a coronation of Louis XIV in music, discovering to the music lover of the 21st century the polyphonic treasures of past times.
